Given the SWFA 1-6’s take so long to get, and wanting to stick with ffp mils/MRAD…I’d probably go with a Trijicon Credo (not Credo HX) 1-6x24.
If your normal range is 10-60 yards, with 200-300 max a possibility… I just don’t think it makes too much sense to go with the larger, heavier 2-10x36...
.308 for me. Partitions are my favorite.
That said, I’d happily switch to a 7mm-08 if I could actually find ammo for it. Hell It looks like Nosler & Federal don’t even load Partitions for it any more. Both have taken 7mm-08 Partitions off their websites.
Damn shame if true.
Over the past year or so there was talk that First Lite was bringing out some new wind proof pieces.
Is the Sanctuary 2.0 the only wind proof item they released? Is there talk of more coming?
I was really hoping for something along the lines of a Sitka Jetstream type jacket- Ala a basic hooded...
Ha! I was talking about shaving your a** in regards to wiping, but yeah- I learned the hard way in regards to clippers and balls too. Nicked them with a 1/2 guard as well. I only use “sensitive skin” razors after that.
One day I might work up the nerve to try one of those manscape lawnmower...
Well done on the minus 33 merino, they make great stuff. I pretty much live in mine during hunting season, going on 4 years and still have no signs of wear.
Favorite new gear for 2020 so far:
•First lite leafy balaclava. Great for warm weather and extra concealment. Can fit over hat or balaclava too. It absolutely confuses deer.
• What I believe is the perfect coffee thermos for hunting. Made by Stanley. Smaller 12oz size, has a trigger opening...
I won’t laugh, but that’s not a proper insulated jacket amigo. Get yourself one that has good insulation such a primaloft, Primaloft gold, core loft, Etc.
Or down.
Like i said- go to an outdoor store and try some reputable brands on, wear them while shopping around the store. Talk to the people...
47-52° isn‘t very cold, but everyone is different.
If you want some real warmth, just get a puffy jacket- either synthetic fill or down.
For example- You can find Eddie Bauer down jackets for cheap. Especially if you have an EB outlet.
Or just go to REI or a similar outdoor store and try on...
Merica!
Proceed with caution on the new rei underwear. Worth trying at $20-ish price I guess, but the reviews on the new ones aren’t so great. The older ones(with the stripe on the waistband) were made with what I believe was the same material as their Sahara T shirts. The fabric on the new...
I use REI brand underwear, I liked them much better than Ex officio & Patagonia. They’ve changed their underwear though, not sure if for the better.
The next pair I try will be the Saxx Quest.
Toiletries: usually a half roll of toilet paper and some wipes.
Since we’re all over-sharing here-...
I‘d pick one of those 2 browning 20 gauges in a heartbeat. sxs or o/u, whichever you prefer to shoot.
If you end up wanting more rifle than your 270, you can always pick up a good shooting cheap rifle (like a Tikka, etc) down the road.
I second this.
You could get it done (the moose part) with a smaller caliber but when it comes to animals that can f you up, best to error on the side of caution Imo.
I’d get the T3x stainless model if possible, and also pick up a limbsaver recoil pad.
I think I’d choose a Sako 85 over any production rifle on the market, at any price, and most customs.
Just make sure to get the Sako Optilock scope rings to avoid any ejection/scope clearance issues.
For hunting deer & hogs in NC with a possible western elk hunt in the future... geez, I don’t think you could pick a better cartridge than the 30-06 (or .308).
.270 is enough gun for both but wouldn’t be my first choice for dense brush hunting often found in NC, and the .300wm is overkill for...
They have new gear coming out this spring, seems like I’ve read they’ll have some new wind blocking type shells. I reckon they’ll have some new midweight stuff as well.
I‘d personally try to wait if you can.
I have their kiln, furnace equivalent(400g merino), and Woodbury also.
Down to about...
Trijicon has a new 3-18x44 from their new Tenmile series that might be worth looking at.
