I’ve been using a Cabela’s Alaskan freighter for the last 19 years and don’t think it has a season left in it. Looking for a used quality setup (frame + bag + some rig to carry scoped rifle). Shoot me a PM if you have something. I’m 6’, 190lbs.

M70 Supergrades weigh a ton, I’d go Fwt as they are bedded and floated from the factory. The South Carolina guns Ive owned (3) were all accurate. My one Portugal gun was a disappointment and I’m still not over it or I would have a Fwt 7-08.
If you really want an accurate and weather proof wood...
30-06. You can load it down to 308 levels if needed, same weight as the 308. 300 Mag in any 6lb rifle enter a new class of recoil, thus optics failures and general discomfort. I killed one goat with a 30-06 loaded with a 180 NP. Have also taken Brown and Black bear with 180’s. It’s enough gun...
I find that if I stay busy doing firewood, taking college classes, working OT, etc. then I have less time to spend money on junk I think I need. I believe the saying is idle hands are the work of the devil.
However come Sept, the hell with all that other stuff, I want to be in the woods until...
I used to use Hod winter lights and grouse versions years ago for sheep hunting before we had all the mountaineering options we do now. The grouse would start to leak after two seasons. The hood winter light being all leather was a bit better because you could treat the leather to make them more...
Some of the 8 vs 10 threads have me thinking. I am in the 8x camp and have only used 8x40 or 42’s but am thinking of 32 as a more compact option and jumping up in glass quality. So anyone went from 40’s to 30’s and regretted it? Or was happy they made the switch?
I’ve had good luck getting TSX and TTSX’s to shoot well. A sample of one critter fell very dead, but hit spine. I am going to use them this year on Antelope. The E-tip requires a little more attention when working up a load as Nosler recommends reducing the charge when using conventional bullet...
I agree, 8x for handheld, 15x on tripod inlieu of a spotter. Granted I’m not counting rings on a Ram anymore.
Where I am currently struggling is 8x40 or 8x30ish? Since moving east, I hunt more timber than open space and am starting to lean towards an 8x32, for carryability.
Currently subscribed to one state for On-X, can’t seem to figure out how to add an additional state without going the $100 nationwide route. Any help, or can you not add additional states?
