I was thinking about the moving back up, I wonder if it's the severity of the storm system. I remember one year, I was backpacking in the Russian Wilderness and we had a storm roll in that dropped 12" of snow, it was the first real "winter" storm. If it's just a day or two of bad weather...
How much work are you willing to put in? The Alps can be nasty, if the route looks short, it's STEEP, if it's not steep it's LONG! But, it's one of my favorite places in the world.
I'm new to hunting, but not new to the Alps, I've heard the same as @Rangerpants, with the first big cold storm...
As Yote said, the area holds a TON of bears. I backpacked the area for awhile before I started hunting and didn't think much of the bears, but once I started peaking through glass, it was shocking how many were cruising around. The Trinity Alps are a special place, maybe I'll bump into you up...
That is scary and what I'm a little concerned about. High concentration of tag holders who have been "quarantined" for far too long...
I got some scouting time today and will head out again tomorrow morning, but I didn't see anything (I'm a total noob and probably glassed over a ton of deer)...
I have built a fermenter locker out of an old freezer. Your basically running a thermometer to a switch that cycles power to one of two outlets you wire up. On outlet has the freezer plugged in and another has a heater, we could keep the temp within 4 degrees F. Kind of a fun project but...
The first photo shows how I attached it on one trip.
It is an older Revolution frame, so maybe it’s missing a couple of daisy chain loops. The photo in the original post was more just to show which strap I was talking about.
I tried it both ways with the same result. The one thing that seemed to reduce the slippage was removing the gatekeeper then putting it back on the other side of the webbing if that makes sense. Basically turning it inside out similar to the way the gatekeeper is on the bottom frame loop. It...

I have a quick question about the Lanner 5400. I recently picked up a lightly used one from here on Rokslide and got it out for two different trips. First of all, this pack is awesome! I love how utilitarian it is, the more I play with it, the more options I realize it has. I’m already...
Spent a few days for opened up in the Alps. Got a thunderstorm, small bit of rain, a tent flattening type of windy day and another thunderstorm. Only saw a 2 pointer, but it was wide. Maybe I’ll get back out there before rifle, but not super confident on that!
Any particular kind of wax? I developed a squeak this weekend after a gnarly windstorm that blew dust everywhere. I pulled the frame out while glassing (two cheers for the ability to field strip!) and cleaned off the bottom joint a little and most of the squeak went away. I still had some from...
