    Tex Creek Zone Idaho

Been lucky enough to draw some LE tags in other states the last few years, so no need to hunt ID. I do watch the sale of the non-res allocated tags. Used to be you could just show up and buy a tag - not any more, same with UT. I’ll get back to Tex Creek when my luck in the LE draws runs out.

    Tex Creek Zone Idaho

Oh, and in 2014 I did see what looked like a sow griz and cub in Tex Creek. I keep a .357 close and my buddy carries a 10mm along with bear spray when we hunt Tex Creek, but we've never had to use them.

    Tex Creek Zone Idaho

Just because there are travel restrictions doesn't mean the ATVers will respect them. I rifle hunted the west side of Bear Creek in the Tex Creek unit (coming in from the IF side) for 7 years during the "7 day War" (that's Idahoan for the rifle elk hunt) some on foot and some on horseback and...

    Feeling overwhelmed

I started hunting elk in ID OTC rifle in 2012. Had no idea what I was doing, except for what I read in magazines, and saw on youtube. Just drove to the end of the road and started hunting. Killed my best elk the first year on the last day of the season still hunting like I sometimes do with...

How many days a year do you hunt elk?

Work dictates 5-7, but sometimes the elk limit it to 1-2, depending on how well I've scouted :)

    Recommendations Idaho Mid Oct

I've hunted ID in Oct when I had to strip down shirtless to work on a downed elk, fought pouring rain for a week, and humped through 2 ft of snow (barely got out that year). I'd go prepped for anything and everything. I layer down for the hike in, then layer up if I'm sitting. Best piece of...

Book Cliffs Elk - Deployed Military

Good luck on your hunt. Utah LE elk tags are getting harder and harder to draw, even at max points, so feel blessed. Glad that one of our servicemen pulled the tag.

    Wts. Primus Omnifuel

Great stove at a great price. Hard to beat the Omnifuel when the weather gets cold. Never had a problem getting my Omnifuel to light, even when the temps got near zero. Saved several winter trips when canister stoves wouldn't light.

    CVA Accura V2

Thanks, KFD. Let me know what Blackhorn says. I've hand loaded for years and the thought of measuring a charge by volume makes me nervous. Maybe it makes sense to buy Blackhorn in 5 lbs lots? I would hope you'd be consistent measuring by weight, at least until the lot ran out.

    CVA Accura V2

New to muzzleloading too. How many shots can you get with the Blackhorn and Harvester sabots before it gets hard to reload?

    From Kansas

Finally decided to stop lurking. Originally from Utah, but been in Kansas for the last 25 years. Make it back to Utah or Idaho most years to chase elk. Will do rifle, muzzy, or rifle, I don't care as long as I'm in the mountains. I like to keep the second week of November clear to hunt Kansas...
