    Rockagator on Camofire

Camofire has Rockagator dry bags and waterproof back packs on sale until around 11:00 pm CST today. Not Ultralight and more for canoeing and rafting trips. Pretty bombproof. I don't know how many river rats are on this site, but I've been very happy with mine and gave a heads up to a few friends.

    Solo time

I was able to catch some of Joe Rohan’s podcast featuring Aron Snyder. Aron mentioned something about the short timeframe that most people can take solo before bailing out. I don’t spend time on the mountain or in the woods like Aron Snyder does. I’m no Aron Snyder and I don’t play one on the...

    Dear Robby

Thought I'd kick off the new feature that I'd requested in the thread about emailing Robby and Ryan Dear Robby- A while ago my sister in law came to visit and "assisted" my wife in "organizing" some things. They decided that they needed a couple of Rubbermaid bins to store some things in the...

    David Haeg Alaska

A buddy just brought a story to my attention. It came up because of the BC Grizzly Hunt Ban. An Alaskan guide, David Haeg had an accident on a bear hunt where his client got shot by an assistant guide and he's been charged with shooting wolves out of an airplane outside of program boundaries and...

Interesting - Could Make for Some Amazing Purifiers

Graphene sieve turns seawater into clean drinking water – and the technology can be scaled up This popped up in my news feed at work. Seems like there's some amazing potential for water filter/purifiers.

    Pad Valve Leaking

I've got a Big Agness Oak Street pad with a slow leak in the valve. I suspect that I may have gotten sand in the valve on a river trip. Anyone got any tricks for cleaning out a screw-down valve? Or a source for a new valve and information on method of replacement? It appears to be set in a...

    iPhone 7 digiscoping

New iPhone 7 came as part of Christmas. I had picked up a used phone skope for my old phone at a very reasonable price because, well...my phone was old and I'm sure the original owner of my phone skope had moved on to a newer phone. I was just bouncing around the web looking at a new phone skope...

    Moffat Progeny

I had seen Luke and Becca's baby sales. Congratulations on being at least temporarily attractive Luke. No inquiries will be made as to how much alcohol was required. Now you're selling your stuff to purchase other stuff. That brought something to mind. I had just packed up a bunch of outgrown...

    Good Guy List?

I haven't done any classifieds transactions recently, but saw a mention on another thread that the Good Guy List was closed and shut down. I liked that there was a venue to see that previous transactions went smoothly with members. And I appreciated being able to publicly thank guys, especially...

    Hot Tent Question

Recently, I was using my cylinder stove on a wet and nasty night. The weather was rocking. I had strung up some cordage to dry my socks and base layers. Life was good. Then a sock and my base layer bottoms dropped off the line because of gusting wind and maybe poor hanging technique. I thought...

    Don't want to test it

Came across this and found it interesting. I don't think that it would alleviate the "pucker factor" I've experienced a few times. The article is short on specs, but it seems as though the "lightning resistant" poles and tent bottom do not add a great deal of weight. The one tent, "the...

Things have been hectic, but I wanted to take a moment to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. A special thanks to the guys who made gear deals for me and the kids. Be good to those around you. Be safe. Have fun. See you on the other side of the holidays. Short bloodtrails.

    CVA Optima opinions

I've got a buddy who would like to start hunting with a muzzleloader. He's asking me to give it a shot and do some hunting with him. So, I'm starting to do some research. The CVA Optima V2 is on sale. It seems to feel good in my hands. I like the screw in breach plug that does not require a...

    In-Line Filters in Cold Weather

When using an in-line filter like a Sawyer in cold weather, what precautions do you take to avoid allowing it to freeze? Shake it out well and stuff it inside your quilt or bag while hunting? Will shaking it out / blowing it out get enough water out to not worry about it? Flush it with a little...

    T.a.g.

Just got a head's up. TAG has Outdoor Research 10L dry bags on clearance still, as well as some balaclavas, range bags and other tactical gear. I picked some of the dry bags while they still had other sizes. Just thought I'd pass it along.

    stupid trekking pole question

I've come across quite a few pics of guys using trekking poles without any sand or snow baskets. Don't you chew up the tabs for the baskets on rocks etc? On rocky ground the baskets may not be necessary, but is there any advantage to leaving them off?
