    Kifar 24" or 26"

I went the other direction (than most) with frame size. At 6'-2" and a 19.5" torso the 26" frame would definitely be better when hauling heavy loads for me. However, if I'm completely honest with myself, I'm only hauling 80+ lb loads once every couple of years (I'm a much better hunter than...

    Lowa Camino GTX?

I've been running a pair of the LL version for a couple of years and it has become a favorite. It doesn't have the full rand all the way around the boot, so if you are in shale side-hilling frequently durability could be an issue. I do some side-hilling and have the nicks and cuts in the...

    Trail running shoe reccomendations

I'll add the Saucony Peregrines to the list. As always the best shoes are the ones that fit you. I use the Peregrines for hiking, backpacking and trail running. They have a rock plate, good grip and cushion and I can usually get a year of hard use out of them. I'll second the REI...

    Pack junkie in SLC?

I have a new Kifaru 24" Hunting Platform frame with a medium belt, composite stays and Woodsman bag you are welcome to try out. Just down the road from you in Lehi. I've been boycotting the Expo myself for the last few years, but gave in this year as a new pack was on the list and most of the...

Kifaru vs Stone Glacier - Specifically fit and frame comparison

Kifaru's composite and aluminum stays come in both flat and curved options, you can switch out to arrow shafts as well. Stone Glacier's stays on the XCurve are curved and made out of composite and titanium. Not sure about the profile of the Krux frame, but it does have composite stays. I...

Kifaru vs Stone Glacier - Specifically fit and frame comparison

I believe this number is usually when considering the weight of the older and lighter Krux frame. I've been comparing a Kifaru Woodsman / Hunting frame with composite stays versus the Stone Glacier Solo / XCurve and there is roughly 1 lb difference between the two, with the SG being lighter...

    Utah Hunt Expo packstravaganza

My focus at the Expo this year was on packs as well, mainly Kifaru and Stone Glacier as I think they are currently the top 2 platforms for hunting. The Kifaru packs met my expectations, but the X Curve demo frame with the 60 lbs was kind of one of those "wow" moments. I'll be ordering a...

Stone Glacier Xcurve - My Initial Impression and Comparisons to Other Popular Packs

Tried the Xcurve frame at the Expo yesterday with 60 lbs. That frame is legit! I'm going to order a Kifaru first, but if I'm not 100% happy it will go back and the Xcurve will be next on the list.

    New Pack Selection--Kifaru???

The Woodsman and Reckoning (love the name) have a generous loop at the top and bottom of the bag. Provided the pack isn't packed super full, I would think the top handle would fit over a saddle horn, although it may not lay as nicely as the photo above.

Coyote or Ranger Green pack - which one with Kuiu vias

Muley15, I was able to get a look at the colors at the Expo yesterday. The Ranger Green is kind of a dull green and seems to have a little brown in it, which by the way, I really like. The straps, buckles, zippers, etc are brown. While there is no green in the Vias pattern (one of my favs)...

    Strings

I've used Hogwire strings for several years now with great results. I would be little nervous having the same shop install strings they don't like.

    No Stabilizer?

I've tried several stabilizer setups over the years and have not been able to document any improvement in my shooting when using them. Conversely, I have friends who have had great experiences using them. All I know is what works for me, and I'm sticking with a bare bow.

    outdoorsman's pistol vs micro panhead?

I've found this tough to do with a very narrow range of movement. Any special tricks?

    Slik 634, 624 vs oben ct2331

I picked up a 623 Slik from Rob and put an Outdoorsman Micro on it. Only used it for a couple of months, but have been very happy with the setup. I'm a big fan of the twist locks on the 623. The tripod is legit and Rob was great to deal with. So refreshing to talk with someone who actually...

    Swarovski

I personally can't hold anything over 8x steady enough without a tripod or a good rest. As such, I've settled on an 8x32 binocular and 65mm spotter combination.

First Lite's Aerowool vs. Kuiu's Tiburon

Big fan of the Tiburon pants... shirt not so much. Picks up odor quickly, doesn't absorb sweat and IME isn't much cooler than merino. I hunt early season archery in Utah and it can be toasty on opening day. On the really hot days I revert back to cotton shirts.

    Light weight boots

I've dealt with plantar fasciitis a number of times over the years and learned a few tricks that work for me. Cushion - In our house we have wood and concrete floors and a "no shoe" rule. I found that wearing runner recovery sandals inside helps. Stride - I tend to walk heavy and strike my...
