    DIY carbon fiber for beginners

Respirator probably not necessary for most stuff, although it never hurts to be careful. Gloves would be the big one to minimize skin contact with the epoxies.

    Mid-Layer Shootout Review ***Updated 2/18/23***

Curious to see how this ends up. I’ve been looking at all of these recently thinking how to discern between them.

    DIY carbon fiber for beginners

Carbon fiber isn’t terribly hard to work with if you’ve worked with fibreglass or anything like that before. And there are lots of tutorials on the internet to get you going. Just make sure to wear gloves, a lot of the chemicals in the epoxy or “glue” part of the equations can cause allergic...

    Cheap Stuff that Works

Thats exactly what I did for my boning knife. A grinder to shape the pipe, propane torch and about 12” of pvc pipe. I think I used 3/4“ pipe if memory serves. I also made a sheath out of an ABS pipe, a piece of plastic electrical conduit, and even a piece of pex pipe just to see if it would...

Titanium Mug Evernew Vs Toaks Vs Snow Peak

A bit of a sidetrack but related to mugs in the backcountry, I've got the mug over the stove system going on and I hate that when I make coffee it goes from scalding hot to ice cold way faster than I can drink it. any good suggestions on how to get some insulating qualities in the mug so it’s...

    Clothing for -40 degree hunting

-40 is a whole different animal than most people are used to in terms of “cold” and being on a snowmobile takes it to another level with the windchill. Definitely look at the hardshell snowmobile bibs and jackets. The biggest thing people forget with these temps is serious boots and serious...

    Puffy vest

Probably not as nice as either of these vests but for another option I’ve been amazed at the weight and performance of the Eddie Bauer down jackets and vests. I got a vest on clearance for like $20 last year and it’s been amazing, super warm and very packable. For the price, they are hard to beat.

Apologizing- why is it so difficult?

Saying ”I’m sorry” I find a little easier, saying “I’m wrong” though is a super tough one to admit. Not that I’m never wrong, it’s just really really hard to admit and say out loud.

    How’s your fuel prices

$1.55/ litre up here in Alberta, about 4.75 US per gallon after exchange rate. Big jump in the last couple of weeks and I’ve heard it’s way worse in other parts. It physically hurts to fill up the truck now.

Swazi “the hood” vs Sitka heavyweight hoody

How is the sizing on the fayettechill polar grid hoodies? I’m 6’4”, 190lbs with a long torso. The Sitka heavyweight that I tried on was just long enough in the body that I was very close to buying it. I like the look and the price of these fayettechill though.

    type of bullet for bear

the last black bear I saw killed was taken with a super basic 140gr soft point federal out of a 270 win. 175 TA should have no problem doing the trick.

    Which Bullet Would You Shoot?

I’d probably lean towards the 150 ttsx. I’ve shot a bunch of accubonds over the last few years and they work great so I can’t not recommend them but I think when my on hand supply runs out I’ll switch it up to Barnes, for a variety of reasons but partly just to try something new. All of your...

    Question about reloading?

The CCI 250s should work fine for you. In terms of recipes I find that it helps to look at a variety of load data and then start with what makes sense. A lot of times the bullet manufacturers will have slightly different data from the powder manufacture. A lot of that is available online now...

    Sad day.....

I got caught being cocky and not using enough of the case lube the other day, resulted in a stuck case one one of the last pieces of brass I was sizing. Learned 2 things that day, how to drill and tap a case for removal, also don’t forget to add lube to the pad every so often. That RCBS stuff...

One item you wish you carried sooner?

Garbage bags/contractor bags always come in handy and they weigh next to nothing. I also just picked up a Garmin Inreach mini, haven’t actually used it yet but it’s one I’ve been thinking about getting for a long time.
