This will be our first time archery hunting since my buddy and I stumbled around the woods back when we were in college. We would have been better off carrying 4 small game heads and one broadhead, just in case. 😂
For those hunting OTC Colorado, make sure you've got the right privileges to...
I don't know how much traction they've received on this, but the guys at Elk Bros have launched the hunting equivalent of a dating app for finding hunting partners. Might be worth checking out.

Possible that there will be some green up if it's a low intensity fire. But... Bigger question will be whether or not access is allowed back into the area. If it's National Forest or other public, expect an extended closure until at least next year in my experience. Fingers crossed for you.
And I've never had an issue with keeping my pack and weapon of choice inside the vestibule area. My stabilizer sticks out a bit in my new shelter but... It's a stabilizer. I am using my 6 Moon Designs Gatewood Cape this year but have used a Tarptent Moment the last few seasons.
200 gr of T7 (loose or pellet x4) is a hefty load to put it modestly. Completely unnecessary IMO.
Also, the article by Randy Wakeman makes it seem as though the T7 would be potentially more of a concern RE: pressure and recoil.
"Note: 150 grains by volume of Blackhorn 209 produces higher...
The hard truth is that you probably need to buy a number of calls to figure out which one(s) work best for you. Without being able to run your tongue across someone else's palate for comparison, it's a bit hard to determine if yours is flat, medium arched, or high arched... Although there is...
Folks have recommended some high quality rain gear for you. I offer a different perspective...
1) If it's going to be steady, heavy rain, I'm not going out until it stops. I hunt with either archery or with traditional muzzleloader, neither of which are conducive to hunting in steady rain due...
Nothing wrong unless it shoots like crap...
I get what you're saying though about availability. OP seems kinda new to muzzleloading. At minimum, be willing to tinker with the powder charge (mentions 100gr specifically). A few grains up or down can make a difference as you're well aware.
Just 19? Will be lots of fresh burn from the Cameron Peak Fire. Don't live there anymore so don't know how intense it was, but you should be able to find the intensity maps.
Don't get attached to any bullet/powder combo until you've shot them. That's all part of the fun of muzzleloading. Never know what your rifle will eat best.
I'm a traditional guy so I cast 380gr Lee REAL bullets and push em with 100 grains of holy black with a dry felt wad. But I doubt that's the kinda setup you're looking for... 😂
If I were inclined to shoot an inline, I would go with No Excuses or Thor bullets. If you go with the latter, you'll...
I just got home from a 13 hour drive with 2 kids (5 and 3) to see my mother, my sister, and her 4 kids in Iowa for 3 days. Two young guys should absolutely drive 15 hours to hunt elk for 5 days if that's all you got.
Note that 3rd week of September will be during muzzleloader season in Colorado. You'll want to check on the tag allocation for your chosen unit as part of your planning to get an idea of the pressure from the orange army.
For your question, hunt/scout one day. Fresh sign or visual/auditory...
I'd say you could join our camp but we've been batting .000 the last four years in muzzleloader season. So you may want to consider other options... 😂
This is our first year doing archery and we're going to a different area.
The Blue Collar Elk Hunting guys just created a thing called Hunt Buddy...
