If you want a smaller size scope, the Nightforce NXS – 2.5-10x42mm could be a good option

I really like my nightforce, mine is the NX8 4-32x50 and its about 1.8lbs. Its on the heavy side and its not cheap. I have not personally looked through any Leupolds but have heard great things about the VX-5HD and the VX-3HD

A good scope is worth its weight in gold IMO. I persoally would look at an upgraded scope regardless of it you get a new rifle or not. I bought a 28 nosler and put a Nightforce scope on it. I am very happy with that combo.

E-scouting doubts

I think it depends on the unit. Is it a draw tag with few tags or general season tag with lots of tags. How far from a road are the basins you are finding. Also keep in mind that overlaping seasons could boost the hunter numbers.
