    DIY glassing mittens

I've been thinking about making something like this to be able to easily slip a hand out to shoot. https://yamamountaingear.com/products/pogies-insulated

    Independent Gear Reviews

Look no further than Rokslide's own backpack test for this. What gets given gets reviewed. If you want real reviews, look for people that paid real money for something. On the other hand, be wary of people's ability to rationalize. Surely I wouldn't have spent $800 on a backpack if it wasn't...

    Kifaru Frame Weight

Interested to see this thread pop up. I was very disappointed when my Kifaru pack was way over spec, but kept it because I had waited many months for it to ship and needed it. I do like the pack but actually dislike being associated with the brand. To see that the advertised weight is with small...

Mid life crisis career change… Remote jobs?

This is ridiculous. Pensions are a rare privilege that few people get anymore. Having a guaranteed early retirement with benefits 12 years before the national retirement age is not indentured servitude. No one is forcing you to stay. They're encouraging you to stay with money, which is a big...

    Cheap Stuff that Works

I would say the sizing is accurate for regular buyers of performance, exercise, and outdoor gear. My guess is the people saying it's too small are regular buyers of tactical gear or workwear that I find oversized. I'm usually between M and L and bought a L. Fits like other L pullover fleeces I...

    Cheap Stuff that Works

I've been wearing this one for a few years, and it has held up well. It's an imitation military grid fleece. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ABNEQJW/ref=twister_B00ABNEQII?_encoding=UTF8&th=1&psc=1

    Muzzleloader Question

I bought some BH209 when I found it, but still haven't made the switch. At first it was because I couldn't find non-ML 209 shotgun primers. Now it's because my setup with Pyrodex pellets has worked consistenty for years. I'll make the switch when I run out of my current batch of Pyrodex, but...

    Day Pack w/ gun Sling

Can you give some more details on how you're carrying the rifle in this case? Do you mean that you're just using a straight stretch of 550 cord as your rifle sling, you sling it over your shoulder like a regular sling, but it just rests on that load lifter buckle like a sling clip?

    OnX hypocrisy

I used to use Gaia. At least OnX is a pro-hunting company. Gaia is owned by Outside, Inc. https://www.outsideinc.com/brands/

    Truck camping stove question

This is what I use. Mostly I'm just heating something up, so one burner is much easier than two. Can't beat the price either.

Reflectix is commonly used for this purpose. Light and easily taped instead of sewn like Neoprene.

    Kifaru Camp Bag Alternative

I sewed my own with HyperD 300. Cost about $10 in material, waterproof, custom sized to perfectly fit the meat shelf/frame height on my Hellbender, and only weighs 4 oz. Easy beginner project.

What's your go to water bottle

I want to like it, but my Nalgene Ultralight leaks. Does no one else has this problem? Don't really want to buy another to find out.

    as.ks.ak Sewing Projects Thread.

@as.ks.ak This is from a while back, but what kind of seam tape did you use to fix the rain jacket? Was it iron-on? I have a jacket that needs the same repairs.

    Pack weight for broke newbie

You don't need to spend a lot of money to have a lightweight pack. Paradoxically, the main thing you need to do is not spend money on things you don't need. Also avoid anything marketed towards hunting. Good, light sleeping bags are expensive. No way around it. Down can be bought used without...

    Kifaru Wind River Jacket

Based on the description, it's a standard Nylon wind jacket. Very uncomplicated piece of gear and should perform roughly the same as anything else in that category: EE Copperfield, Patagonia Houdini, etc. They're nice for taking the edge off the wind or stretching a bit more warmth out of a...

    Water bottle “particulate” filter?

You could try to cut something like this to fit inside your squeeze bottle cap. Although it may be less fussy to just cut a 3-4 inch section and lay it over the Nalgene mouth while you fill it from the CNOC...
