    Prepping for a Float Trip

I'm in SW MO and think people are doing this. My cousin has the itch and brings it up sometimes. The other curve ball in our area is gigging season. The jet boats are out there finding holes to gig at night. Then some will set up and cook the fresh fish on gravel bars. It will be a good...

Ozonics/Ozone generator and clothing in the treestand

The milkweed for the win. It is visible and drifting on wind/thermals many many feet away from your position. I had a buck approaching my tree stand and without any other tool but milkweed, I knew the shot would not happen. At the approximate location I expected him to scent me, he did. But...

    Hot Sauce Recommendation?

I have ran the course with Frank's. Recently started with Old Bay. Which is an East Coast thing I believe. Does well with seafood.

    Suppressor wait times

I'm going need feedback on my idea for short individual waits . Over the life of a silencer, will the revenue stream be lower with a trust ? Less opportunities for the tax stamp?? It's probably not true but playing a game of follow the money in my head right now.

How do I teach my dog to pick up sheds?

That is a great suggestion. We have used clicker with our family dog. And also a few foster dogs so they have basic manners for their forever family. The technique is both simple and multi-faceted. Lots of ways to shift a command to something different or new.

How do I teach my dog to pick up sheds?

I really enjoyed seeing my dog learn and understand scent skills. You probably have seen guys hold a treat in one hand and then put both hands in front of the dog. Maybe a paw on correct hand or nose to open your hand for the treat. Same basic principle is in action for antlers. We did indoor...

    2024 ATA event in STL

I understand that. The event had me chasing a way to get in since I'm not in the industry either. A company Stealth Outdoors has been on another forum for years and I approached them to volunteer at their booth. It worked. Overall it is not set up for consumer buying but seeing and handling new...

    2024 ATA event in STL

I had to double take when I noticed 6.5 manbun ARROWS. Might go well with the e-scooter.

    high fence whitetail

I wanted to add how I enjoy hunting to the conversation. The theoretical HF hunt doesn't check all the boxes of why I hunt. I'm also at a financial point where 2-5k spent on a hunt would need to be justified by what is brought home. After being an RMEF volunteer for 10+ years, I still have not...

    high fence whitetail

I still feel it's a grey area. A completely legal one even. The new equipment cost for an eastern guy to prep and execute a elk hunt out west as an example would cover 50-75% of a fenced hunt. Add the tag, gas, PTO, lodging etc and well...

    2024 ATA event in STL

Tomorrow and Saturday I will be visiting the Archery Trade show in STL. What fancy new gear will be out this year? They will show it off. Celebrity signing, yes. Swag, of course. Badlands have tattoo artists waiting to give you a free tat if you want their logo!! Hopefully I can share some...

    high fence whitetail

When I consider what is offered with X amount of dollars at a pay to play hunting operation , things go grey quickly. A high fence hunt can secure a big pile of meat in a short amount of time. Guaranteed. Same dollars set aside for 7-10 days of DIY state tag hunting sounds AWESOME. Not coming...

    Dedicated Big Woods Whitetail Setup

My dad bought a Model 7 new when I was a kid. It has passed on to me . I agree with the OP that optics should be addressed. A previous slug gun had a Bushnell red dot that could adjust dot size just as you change mag level. Close shots were 6-8 moa and a precision longer shot with time could be...

Gear Deals - What was your best deal to be had? Thanks Rokslide !

A slik tripod a couple days back was unexpected spend. Cabela's Euro 10x32 for less than $500 was a good score. My Ebike story didn't go as planned but watched that event here.

Why give your money to RMEF if your “out east” ?

I'm a volunteer for RMEF and live central US. Whether I get to hunt west or not I am aware of one thing. The Falls Creek project convinced a President to permanently authorize federal conservation funding. THAT IS FOR ALL OF US. In every state. Maybe even helpful to US territories.

If you were just starting out what pack would you buy?

You mentioned Alps. Sign up for email with them and they give a discount code. Maybe it will be enough for you to try the Elite pack system. 3800 would be nice vs the smaller 1800 bag they offer. There is a 2 part video of pack reviews for 2023 here somewhere.

Do you bow hunt during gun season?

I prefer bowhunting. But walking around the woods with a rifle is enjoyable also. Our gun season starts basically right after leaf drop is complete. Open hardwood hunting is much better with a long range weapon.
