Wasn’t sure where else to post this. I am looking at buying a new truck and this is one at a local dealership that has caught our eye. Anybody out there with a similar truck that can tell me what problems they have or what you don’t like about it. It has 105k mikes on it, which I feel is a little heavy for only being 6 years old, but I am guessing it’s mostly all highway miles. Anyway, give me your thoughts

I wouldn't even let my 16 year old kid drive a piece of crap like that. Sure, get yourself a 3-4 year old beater if you don't want to get something nice, but 6 years old? What are you, poor?

In seriousness, if those still use the active fuel management they were problematic. 2007ish when they started through mid teens is the most recent I looked at seriously, but the system frequently resulted in fatal damage to engine internals.

I'd take a ten year older Tundra over a mid to late teens Silverado for sure for what you're looking for, or an Ecoboost 2016+ F150 if you prefer domestic.

Possibly the least comfortable truck I've ever ridden in. Not sure how much that matters to you.

I would avoid it if it uses the same transmission as the 2017 models. Had mine go out twice due to the torque converter. Traded it in right after the warranty expired.

I have a 2022 I bought new and love it. Havent put a lot of miles on it so don’t know about longevity yet.

I had a 2019 silverado lt with the 5.3. It was ok. The "lift" in the trail boss is a piece of crap, much better options out there. I had a few issues with my truck. Timing chain tensioner went out at 75,000 miles, causing other issues. Had injector issues at 30,000. Sold the truck at 90,000. Bought an f150, couldn't be happier. Tows my trailers better, gets better mpg and has more power. The drivers seat is less comfortable than the silverado.

I have a 2020 TB with the 6.2.. It has right at 112,000 on it.. So far no issues, fingers crossed...
Really like the truck, still looks new. Rides well and handles the road well too. Has a lifetime average of 18.4 according to onboard computer. God willing I'm going to keep it for a long time! Do have a 24 F150 in the driveway just to hedge my bet, lol.

I was truck shopping last fall after I sold my 2014 Z-71 with 65K on it.

I limited my search to 2019 & older due to the known issues with the 8 speed tranny in the newer units.

I ended up buying a 2019 LD model, which is still the old body style, only available in an extended cab, with the 5.3 & 6 speed tranny. I took my Range AFM deactivator out of my 14 & plugged it into the 19. Truck had 56K on it, with a pristine frame & undercarriage. I blew my wad on new rims & tires.

Is the '20 6.2 on the recall list or is is 21-24 can't remember? Not good, sounds like theyre blowing up.
I have a 21 Chevy silverado RST (rally sport truck ) only 33k miles. Not much different than the TB. Seems to be good to me. Gets very solid gas mileage, pulls well and nice comfortable interiors. A mechanic I know says hands down the pickups he works on that have the most issues are the f150s. But that's just his business.

I did not like the 8 speed transmission in my 2019 Trail Boss. The 2017 Silverado 1500 LTZ with 6 speed was a better truck. I love the 6.2L and 10 speed in the 2021 and 2023 Trial Boss I had but have my fingers crossed and am nervous about the lower end issues. I only run premium fuel to supposedly avoid the lifter issues with the AFM system. So far no real problems with any of them.

Oh, rotate the tires every 5000 miles, they'll still wear the inside of the front tires but it'll be slower. Every damned one of the Trial Bosses does it and no one can give a solid answer

Dont do it. My 2019 6.2 dropped a lifter at 98k and it was going to be $10k to hopefully get another 100k miles out of it. Ditched it for another yota. Find a 2.5gen Tundra with the 5.7 and call it a day. Alternatively, get a serious warranty on anything newer that you buy. I'm in that camp with 80k miles worth of warranty on a 2023 Tundra right now.

My 6.2 let go but the transmission was also not running so well. I wouldn't touch a GM product at all.

Cam and lifters are notoriously bad in those. If it has the 8 speed in it be prepared to put a trans in it.

Sincerely a 19 1500 owner

They are time bombs as your experience notes.

Theres a class action lawsuit going right now. Plastic valves in the tranny go and the cams get flattened.
