Thats not thinking outside the box to me. same thing as bowhunting whitetailsOh, and talking about thinking outside of the box to hunt these guys. I needed to intercept them before they got to their bedding area. There was no way to put a stalk on them. I found a pinch point with some trees so I climbed one and used my saddle.
My favorite way to pack an elk! Let me know when to come overdelivery to the meat pole.

Colorado - September 5th
Way to be persistent and congrats! That’s a great Roosevelt!First elk after hunting more seasons than not since 2003.Oregon, Montana, Idaho, Colorado and back to Oregon. I’ve packed other people’s elk. Had fun and gotten my but kicked. I’ve had every thing go wrong that can go wrong chasing elk, wind changed (A lot), shooter error, elk dodging arrows, other hunters etc etc. So happy and blessed to finally get it done. Oregon coastal Rosie. He had 14 cows, watched him in the morning, he wandered off. Found him in the timber then he left again found him out in a clear cut at 10am. Never had that on my bingo card. Good wind and by Gods grace he was down 76 yards from an abandoned log landing I could sneak down on. Never knew what hit him. Double lungs. Couldn’t believe it. Still brings tears to my eyes. Praise God. He went 4 steps and stopped. My fried followed up with a 80 yard shot thru the tenderloins for good measure lol. He went 76 yards I think he summersaulted the last 10-15. Still in shock. I know he’s not huge but I’m so thankful to me he’s the trophy of a lifetime, so far.
