I have a 6.5 SAUM and an 8lb jug of H4831 and haven't seen much info about loads using it other than its one of the powders people recommend. I've used H1000 with mixed results, so wanted to try another powder since I have a bunch of it. Max load in this rifle with H1000 was 58.0 grains and speed was 3030-3040. Was happy with speed but couldn't find a great seating depth where groups would hold together.

Gun is Remington 700, Brux #3 / 24" / 8 twist.
Using ADG Brass. Have CCI Large and Magnum Primers, Federal as well in both. Want to use 143 ELD-X's.

Any info that you all are willing to share about load development, where to start and work up and what to expect for speed would be great. Your help would be most appreciated.

Thanks, Dave

I know I'm bringing up a super old thread here but I was curious about the same thing especially since I already use it in my 7 SAUM. It may be a little bit fast but once my 6.5 SAUM barrel gets here I'm going to try it with some 140 VLDs and Elite hunters. I contacted Berger and they sent over some data for it.

I couldn't get the 143's to shoot, so I changed bullets. My gun shoots really good with 135 gr Berger VLD's and H4831. ADG brass, Fed 210, 57.0 gr and 3110 fps. Hope this helps. This load is a little under max in my rifle, so use it with caution in yours.

That's extremely helpful, thank you very much! I'm excited to have this rifle in hand. Your load data lines up really close with the Berger data. As soon as I can I'll come back with results. I'm going to be running a long action with a 3.1" mag.

Glad to help. Seating depth on these is .055 of the lands which puts the bullet seated at the base of the neck. It's 2.950 to the lands and loaded at 2.895 COL and 2.275 CBTO. Have proven this setup out to 1200 yards. It shoots as good as I can hold it. Good luck with your new rifle.

Thank you very much! I just ordered two boxes in case my barrel doesn't like the 140s or 143s. My velocity will definitely be slower than yours as I'll be running a 20" barrel. Thanks again!
