77tmk in a tikka

I had a problem getting my Tikka .223 to group after I had it threaded, and it probably took me longer than it should have to determine that I hadn't seated the action quite fully into the stock.

Double/triple check the basics?

Anyone had any success with the AAC 77 smk 5.56 in their .223?

Not the same but the AAC 77 black tips shot sliiiiighty larger than the black hills TMKs in my daughters tikka.

i have a 22inch 223 t3x factory everything except its in a stockys stock. It shoots factory 55 gr pretty well. I'd really like to run 77tmks and tried multiple different charge weight starting with varget a 22.5 gr and worked up in .2 gr to 24.3. My lowest charge weight (22.5 middle picture) shot decent every other 3 shot group was horrible.

Do you think it worth while trying a different powder or just giving up on 77tmk all together?

23.5gr 8208, 77gr TMK, 2.26” coal. Doesn’t matter the case or primer- just use decent standard offerings.


Close to 100x T3’s and T3x 223’s- all shoot that load at 1.5 MOA or less for multiple ten round groups.

Looking for some opinions from guys who have tried 75 and 80 ELDM’s in a tikka. I upgraded to the waters mags and now have plenty of mag room to try the longer bullets. My 73 eldm load at factory mag length shoots absolutely fantastic…. But I like to tinker so want to see if I can gain anything with the higher BC options. Have varget and H4895 to work with. Is the 8 twist too slow for the 80’s?? Anyone tried both bullet in a tikka? BC is almost too close to worry about I guess.

I run BLC2 with 77s and adequate results.

How many grains are you at? I’m working up a load as I have several pounds of BLC2 to go through.

thanks @Formidilosus seems like you are right about 23.5 of xbr being about the sweet spot! I haven't got one single decent group with varget using 77tmk or 75 eldm. the gun didnt like xbr and the 75 elmds either.

Buts seems like the gun will shoot around 23.4ish with the 77tmk (the bullet I hoped it would like!). Need a larger sample size now!

Glad you found success with the XBR. My Tikka loves Lever with 75gr ELD-Ms.

I know this is unrelated to the discussion at hand but I'm curious about the performance of the 30 cal 175 grain tmk on big game at impacts of under 2600 fps. I've been able to find ballistic gel pics but I'm curious about real world results, and since you've got the reputation of being the tmk guy, I figure you're the best member to ask personally.

They kill excellently.

Looks like you can add another to the list. Here is a 10 round group. .1 grain up and down from that didn’t shoot near as good. Really kicking my self for pulling those 2!!!
