What all states have early August bear seasons? I'm looking to hunt in Aug of next year. Is it a lot tougher hunting than spring?

I’m in Oregon, it opens August 1st. I live in the sw portion of the state which means you can harvest 2 bears. I’m finding it harder to find bears than the spring time, but I don’t think I am doing it right. The spring here is all about finding grass in clear cuts behind gates so people aren’t back there. Fall is finding the berries, which I have done the bears just aren’t there every day.

In parts of California, the archery season opens mid August. Coastal areas earlier. Mid August can be great, especially if we have a heavy or late snow pack. Some years (not this year!) there is still some snow at 8000 feet and bears appear to be eating grass that is greening up. There is a large enough bear density here that you will find bears most any month if you have an idea of the food source.
