Who has replaced thier bolt knob? I don’t like the small knob, and picked up a bigger one. For the life of me I can’t get the small knob off. Iv wrecked strap wrenches, dinged up the finish on he small one and torqued on the thing to the point I was scared of snapping the threads.

Christensen arms said a little heat and it should come right off. Tried heat as well, quite a bit of it, still no go

I replaced the knob on three ridgelines last fall. Commercial grade heat gun, an old leather glove and a good pair of Channel lock pliers. Gave it plenty of heat and they came right off for me. Used the leather of the glove to protect the knob from the jaws of the pliers. Put a drop of blue Loctite on the threads before installing the new larger knobs.

I had a bolt handle on a Kimber Montana that wouldn’t come off to save my life, I ended up using a blow torch because I didn’t have a heat gun and a hair dryer wasn’t doing it, a big thick piece of leather and some pliers finally got it off no worse for the wear.

Are you guys replacing the knob with the tactical bolt knob that CA sells on their own site? Or some other knobs? I am not a fan of the small knob on my ridgeline and never thought of replacing it until now.

Please post up what you guys are switching over to if you don’t mind!

Thanks gents, got it off.

Too a lot of heat.

I’ll also confirm for those wondering that it takes the standard 5/16x24 thread

I didn’t even have to heat mine up - just placed a leather strip around the small bolt knob and wrenched it off.

I’ll post some pictures of the two knobs for others who may want to see. Actually weighed them as well for those who are counting ounces!!

CA Small Bolt Knob: .207 ounce
CA Large Bolt Knob: .565 ounce

I just replaced my knob on my Ridgeline, I used a hair dryer on it for about 5 mins to get it warm. My plan if that dint work was to get a cheap heat gun off amazon, but my knob twisted off fine. Locked it into a bench vice with a leather glove, then used vice grips and the finger of another leather glove around the knob.

Are you guys using red or blue locktite when spinning the new one on? I was leaning towards blue and figured that would be enough.

Interesting thread. I've got the oversized knob shown by MTElkchaser on mine. It came installed for me, but I"d probably use red? I guess I'm not anticipating needing to move anything about my bolt once I've got it the way I like it hah

I wouldn’t go red unless you want issues getting it off.
