Colorado Elk Hunt 421

Hello all.

New to the page.

This will be my first year doing a DIY elk hunt in Colorado unit 421 this September with the bow.

Any advice as far as terrain to be looking for ?

Anything we should be steering clear from?

I haven’t hunted there since 2012 but I hope to make it out there this year. There is good access with an ATV but hunt away far away on foot. Look for wet places in the North facing dark timber. I always listened more than calling because they get a fair amount of pressure. I got a really nice bull there in 2008 but I’d be looking for the first legal animal if it were me. There will be a lot of cattle in the mountains that time of year and it can get cold or hot so be prepared or both and a plan for the meat. We used an old chest freezer and a generator in the daytime and opened it up at night.
Here is a couple 421 bulls one is muzzleloader and one is rifle. I’ve only killed cows otherwise and one with a bow
