Down blanket for added warmth?

Currently have the Sitka Aerolite sleeping bag that I’m planning on using for mid to later September elk (I got from a guy for a great deal otherwise I would have gotten something else …)… anyway it’s a 30 degree bag and actually packs pretty small for synthetic, but I’m always worried about getting chilled. It’s pretty light at only 2 lbs so I was wondering if I packed a light down blanket to kind of use as a quilt … some of these on Amazon look like they might be decent and only weight 1 to 1.5 lbs. thoughts?

Can't say on the blankets you've linked, but I sometimes use a 50 degree synthetic quilt (Apex insulation) in conjunction with one of my down bags (I also use it on its own during the day to glass with when it's cold).

A 50 degee rated quilt/bag adds ~ 15-20 degrees of additional warmth to you sleep system. Mine weighs 12 oz, so it's a rare trip that it doesn't go on

We have down comforters we use when camping in the cold. We aren't backpacking but they are really nice.

I’ve done this with a smaller ”throw” blanket. It does work, until the blanket falls off. Then you have to open the bag up and try to get the blanket draped properly again. It works, but it’s annoying.

Not carrying another 25 ounces and freezing your ass off in a vbt.

How about a puffy jacket and pants instead of a quilt? That might be more versatile.

Like I said above, the addition of a 50 degree quilt would give you roughly a 15 degree system for 12 oz- adding clothing to that would get you lower yet

A woobie is a poncho liner from the military or as I know it the Army. It's the only blanket I use year round at home, current one is about 17 years old.
You can find them cheaper, but below is all it is.

I found some Woobie style blankets on Amazon. They are a little bigger in dimensions and come in around 1.5 lbs. they are synthetic so probably won’t pack down like the down blankets?

I ordered this one and sent it back pretty quickly. Feathers were coming out of it when I took it out of the packaging and didn’t appear to be filled very well. In the Q&A, the manufacturer said it was filled with duck down and feathers. I’m not saying that it was horrible, but at $70, it’s definitely not a quality down blanket. At 1.1 lbs, I wanted to at least try it. I’m a believer in “you get what you pay for”. Ymmv, but I’d steer clear.

Thanks for the feedback on steering clear as that’s one that I had listed above. I found a OneTigris one that seems to get better reviews.. I’ll probably try that OneTigris one out and see.

If you’re dead set on a blanket, I’d order this one. I have this “knock-off” Woobie and it’s actually great for what it is. And a lot cheaper and lighter than the OneTigris one.

Just chiming in that I have used a woobie and a poncho liner to add warmth to 20* bags. I prefer using them as an over blanket. Warmth is subjective but I feel like an extra 10* is reasonable. I think you can get added warmth from wearing a warm hat, puffy booties, etc but at some point the cost and weight start to equal a warmer bag.

Alright so I got talked into a woobie…but I actually work close to The Sportsman’s Guide retail outlet store. I ran down there today and picked up an actual surplus woobie/poncho liner for $23. It’s used and a little faded but still in good shape. Weighs exactly 20.5 oz.
