Hey guys. In the picture shown you can see my elk head with the nose splitting. Has anyone had this problem? I thought about taking some fiberglass and epoxy and trying to fit it underneath the split just to keep it from splitting more. I can soak it in warm water and get it to close, but as soon as it dries it’s back there again.
Any thoughts??

I’ve got a bull just like that I killed years ago and I believe I overboiled it .... i was super worried about it falling apart, but it has looked like this for years and hasn’t gotten any worse.

I guess what I’m saying is, i don’t think I’d worry about it getting worse, I almost think a binding compound would look worse than the split. But maybe somebody knows of something that would match up!

I've fixed many skulls with regular old Elmer's glue it dries clear and will scrub off with warm water if you get it some where it shouldn't be.

This antelope fell and broke his nose off.

I have an elk like that and haven't done anything else with it after boiling and doesn't appear to split any more even years later. I did over boil possibly and it spilt wide, I bound the nose with string while it dried and it closed up nicely when I removed it.

I've had good luck rehydrating the skull and spreading epoxy on the inside of the nose. I then clamp it for several days until it dries. I've yet to have one reopen doing this process.

Thank you for the replies. I’m going to try rehydrating it and closing it up. I need to whiten it again still because it is a little yellow still
