Hello all, this year will be my first rifle elk hunt. I am using a 6.5 Creedmoor and using federal premium trophy copper 120gr. Excuse if I sound like a noob but, will this be a sufficient bullet for penetration of the skin. What is a minimum grain of bullet to use I've searched for other bullets and wanted to know if a heavier grain bullet would suffice and which bullet will actually stay intact when the animal is hit. Thank you in advance

I prefer a 200 grain Nosler Accubond at a muzzle velocity of around 3000fps.

I’d also recommend checking out this thread.

There are several threads on here that will provide more than enough information and arguments about this topic. The 6.5 Creed has earned a reputation as a reliable and consistent big game cartridge as long as the ranges and velocities on target are appropriate for the bullet being used. Its not everyone's choice and some like smaller rounds and some like larger, but if you do your part and stay within the capabilities of the round you'll be fine.
