How to level rifle before leveling scope

Stop making this a difficult thing. Hang a string, line up the vertical wire with the string making sure the string is splitting the bore. The bore will be centered directly below center of the scope, and wire will be plumb. Dang near free, no gadgets.

This method is fine ASSUMING the reticle and/or erector are true to the tube. If not, then elevation induces windage and windage induces elevation.

this vertically aligns bore, and reticle. Nothing you do mounting a scope proves the scope tracks straight. In fact very few do.
