Idaho winter range buck

Took a quick trip this afternoon checking out the nearby wintering deer herds. Very encouraging and saw lots of deer and lots of bucks. Not quite sure what was going on with my camera but I was having trouble focusing it on program mode. In any case, this one buck got my attention. He was with about 20 does and 6 other bucks.

Driving today for work and I happen to glance up and see horns and a body at the base of a tree. Figure it is an elk but as soon as I look through my camera, low and behold, a pretty nice buck all by himself.

Yup, they are still there. I live in Sweet and work at the Banks Maintenance shed for Idaho DOT. One of these days, i'll probably drive my plow truck off into the river while looking at the animals....................But hey, there could be worse ways to go.
