I've been playing with my Kifaru pack trying to come up with a better daypack setup. I've got an EMR2 and a Mountain Warrior for big packs but I want something 2# or below for a daypack (not counting my frame weight here). I thought I would try an Argali or Tahr but then I just have a big bag without any pockets for organization. Adding any pockets to an Argali puts me over 2#.

I'm a firm believer in a daypack that can haul at least an elk hindquarter back to the truck. And I've always loved how much stuff I can haul in a Guide lid. So....

I've got my 26" Hunter frame fitted with 2x Guide lids, 2x large belt pouches & a Kifaru meat bag riding in a Grab It. The top lid attaches & hinges at the top of the frame and the bottom lid attaches & hinges at the bottom of the frame. I simply undo 4 SR buckles and the lids open up like a clamshell to accept the load of meat, spike camp, etc. This gives me 2,974 cubic inches of storage with the ability to haul out a serious load of meat. Not including the frame this setup weighs 30oz (I cut the daypack straps & pouch off my guide lids) and I have 4 separate lids & pouches to store my gear in.

Nice setup, I was going to use a native with Sherman pocket and 2 medium belt pockets for my day hunt needs. Was looking at getting a gen 2 claymore to use as a lid too.

I run the Kifaru WOODSMAN bag. It’s 3400ci closed snow collar, and 4000ci expanded. I use this for backcountry 3 day excursions, however I daypack it as well. Take what essentials I need and use compression straps to suck it up close to the frame.

I have been using the cargo net and the native. I prefer the native since I run a bladder, and you can do just about anything with that cargo net if you are willing to manage some straps from time to time

I feel one of the most overlooked and under rated pieces is the spotting scope pocket.

That thing just screams put stuff in me.. I own 2 and love them.

The spotting scope pocket is good and I've come close several times to buying one. But I just keep coming back to the guide lid. It's capacity (1,200 inches), price ($77) & it's weight (less than 10oz after trimming the fat) is an irresistible combination to me. Also the fact that I can mount any size belt pouch on it is icing on the cake.

I'm looking to pickup a sewing machine and learn how to use it. I'm wanting to build a single layer 500d item that is a combination of the cargo & quarter panels and the capacity of 2 guide lids. Anyone want to build it for me? LOL

I've taken to running my 3L bladder in my guide lid. I just toss it in last and route the hose out the corner of the zipper. Kinda crude but it's worked so far.
