Hi.

I was wondering if someone here would give me some advice on choice of light hiking boots.
I know about what i want/need, but need some guidance.
Primary use is hunting, and light backpacking, day trips. with 5-15 kgs of load normally.
The terrain is steep and hostile, the largest hurdle being wet and slippery mountain and rocks.
Weather is wet, windy, 0 -10 celsius normally. Most of the season i hunt in 3 layer hard shells and wool.
Outsoles being maybe the most important point.

Most recent boots i had:
Salomon Ultra Trek GTX, lasted two seasons before i shredded them up, lacings and stitches on the sides ripped. Fairly comfortable, but the soles are not up to par for grip/traction on the terrain and a bit too much drop for my taste.
Inov8 Rocklite 345 GTX, comfortable. Best suited for dry weather, lugs wear fairly easily, and grip on wet rock/mountain is lackluster.
Lowa Tibet- too stiff, heavy, and too much drop, with medicore traction. Feels like walking with a brick under each foot, no feedback.
Crispi Hunter- Too stiff again, and too much drop for comfort, the Vibram soles are again medicore.

- Excellent grip on wet and slippery rocks. Vibram Megagrip, Continental and Michelin looks like good candidates?
- Medium/High boot with Gore-Tex or similar mebranes, and decent water resistance, wool underneath.
- Low /medium heel-toe drop, not more then 10mm, 5mm would be better. I do strike with the front part of the foot more then the heel normally.
- Fairly lightweight, not too stiff and rigid cushioning / midsole, need some feel /feedback from the terrain.
- Some light ankle support, (had too may injuries in the past).
- Price is not really a consideration, but hopelfully solid enough quality to last a few seasons.

Currently i have been considering:

La Sportiva Boluder X gtx : https://www.lasportiva.com/en/boulder-x-mid-man-grey-17e900304

I would be very grateful for some input on above mentioned boots, or other good options, or good tips on boots /outsoles.
Thanks.

Mammut Taiss Light GTX is crazy light, pretty stiff. They’ve held up great for me.

You might try on the Crispi colorados. If they fit your feet they are great. Stiff yet light.

I'd second the Colorado's suggestion. I used a pair on an aoudad hunt in January and they were excellent on the lave type rock.

I actually have Summits that I wear all the time and love. I'm looking for something even lighter than those. I bought some Attiva mids and they just don't fit my feet well. Actually plan on listing them here for sale since I can't return them. So, in short, looking for an Attiva equivalent in other brands.

I like the Crispi Attiva Mid. They are light - not what you want with a heavy pack, but I have put hundreds of miles on them with a light pack. The Gortex has held up well. I don't like the speed laces very much, but those are easy to replace. They are really light.

I really like my Scarpa Kailash for a lighter weight boot. How light do you want to go? I had some La Sportiva Nucelos and they were essentially high top tennis shoes. Might work if that's what you're after. The Scarpas are lightweight but still have some decent support.

I think the Salewa Alp Trainer Mid has taken over the top spot for my favorite light(ish) boot. I prefer lace to toe boots so I can dial in how tight I want them to be in different parts of the boot depending on terrain and they work great for that. The heel lock that Salewas have seems to work pretty well, makes heel slip nonexistent. They blend an approach-type boot with a more traditional hiker well, having a more “precision” fit but still enough stiffness to carry a moderate load.

Do these fit true to size? This sounds like a great option. If you are familiar with the crispi stiffness rating at all, where would these fall on that scale?

Hate to say it but you just need to try them to find out. I much prefer trail runners over boots for anything but super steep and loose rock.

Yes. I wear an 11.5 in basically everything and it’s the same for these.

I’d say they are about a 2. Fairly flexible boot, but not to the level of my La Sportiva TX4 Mids which I’d give a 1 to.
