McCall Idaho Spring Bear

Looking for some advice for Spring bear near McCall. Was thinking mid-May maybe. Would this be too early in a normal year? I know what the weather was like during elk season this year north of McCall. Would it be better to come in and set up a bait site or spot and stalk? Is it hunted hard here in the spring? I am looking to not bother local and resident hunters but do have some general locations picked out that I have seen sign in the past. I will have a wolf tag also, but mountain lion? Is this a good location? Or should I look for something else?
