Hello Roksliders,
New member here, big fan of the format, broad spectrum of info and attention to minutiae here and all the member contributions. First post, long-winded, bear with me.
Anyone with experience is invited to share their opinions and thoughts on the McMillan HTG M40A1 stock with me. I am thinking hard about putting it on my Winchester Model 70 EW .338Win Mag to add a little weight and hopefully attenuate recoil a bit. Normally I have no issue with the Bell and Carlson stock that is on it currently and shoot a Model 70 .300WM with the B and C stock no problem, but this .338WM is a beast and we are not gelling like I’d hoped. It currently weighs 8lbs 4oz scoped and I have discovered that people like Dave Petzal and Chuck Hawks are not wrong in their suggestion that a .338WM is most comfortably shot at or around 9+lbs, though this saddens me to say.
Also, the HTG M40A1 stock has a bunch of great American sniper history and looks cool, tbh.
Thanks for reading and for any responses on your experiences whatsoever.
Cheers.
