A really good friend of mine, here in TN has been invited to elk hunt at one of his friend's uncle's private property this year. It's just west north west of Bozeman, 2000 acres. He was asking me about tags & having never hunted Montana I figured i'd best ask here for him.

Does Montana have OTC tags?

Are landowner tags an option?

Would he have to apply in a/the general draw or a specific unit draw?

No.

No.

Depends on the unit but both units directly NW of bozeangelas are general so probably doesn't need a permit.

Edit: there are otc cow tags near Bozeman. I'm assuming he wants a bull but that is another option if he doesn't draw.

I will be buying a nr deer combo otc in a couple weeks, I could add an elk tag otc for another $200ish.

For the op...if your friend was born in Montana and has family living there he may qualify for an otc nr tag. Could also qualify for coming home to deer, elk, or deer/elk combo as well, that's draw but usually 100% odds. Also there are landowner sponsored deer combo licenses as well.
