Montana Region 5

Have deer/elk combo tags for Montana and planning on hunting the Region 5 area, South of HWY 90. This will be our first year to Montana and wondering what to expect as far as deer and elk numbers and the quality of the deer muleys/whitetail. It looks like some fires have passed through the region the past several years so I would like to hunt the edges of some of the burn scars. We are wanting to get off the roads and hike a bit, assuming the weather will cooperate in Mid November. Has anyone had any luck here recently?
