Very interesting. DNA evidence from hair found in the early 2000's was a positive for moose.

It's too bad that the population never took hold like other transplants. Would be another option for DIY moose hunters.

Intriguing recent events story, and just a really cool history of one of the many animals introduced over there for sporting purposes. Seems crazy they'd still be around with no confirmed sighting in over 50 years. Fiordland is nasty, remote bush though.



Cool read. I'm not big into cryptozoology, but stuff like this does happen sometimes- they found a species of chevrotain in Vietnam that was presumed extinct not too long ago by talking to local villagers who saw them occasionally, and putting out camera traps. Would be cool if there were still moose there.

Would love to see a Nat Geo exploration documentary on this. I've seen a few of the stories and it's very intriguing to think of finding such a large animal undiscovered in that area
