Wow. That is nuts. I have been using lots and lots of game cameras since 1998 with the camtrakker. I’ve never seen any batteries last near that long.
Moultrie A-30 series with safeway select batteries. Not amazon but hey, they cant be that much different - cheapo’s…. Absolutely nuts. This cam was on the same tree for 4 years and it has never performed like this before. Usually the batteries last 6 months and I get around 4-5000 pics. It was buried in snow this winter and kept rolling up until I turned it off. Dont know what to say other than its pure luck.
All seriousness looks like a scene from Narcos…

my money is on hippie ‘bout to take care of some thieving hippies.
There is nothing out there. Hardly any water too. Anyone crazy enough to grow dope there should get a darwin award too. Its legal in CA for christs sake lol. Just do it in your front yard like half my neighborhood.

I have those same cameras and they hold up pretty well, the batteries is what is impressive.

Also, I think it’s legal to grow on state land in CA not federal, could be wrong.

I’ve tracked growers and smugglers pretty far, farther then most would think someone would go just to move dope. Water is a must though.

Gonna need to see the drainage on GAIA to accurately assess route of travel. Screenshot will work, just be sure at least an 8 digit grid to ensure accuracy.

Also, do you really think he hiked in super early and shot everything in velvet before noon, with his iron sights M1? You sir, have quite the imagination.

My guess is something illegal, but he's not poaching all your velvet bucks and leaving them behind.

Batteries certainly were an anomaly.

As far as growing goes, i doubt weed grows well on granite rock/sand material. Yes i have seen murder mountain and Ive lived in humboldt county before. Just not the place to do it and ive come across plenty of grows - another reason why I hunt out/up there. Im not a fan of having guns pulled on me and ill treat people like that accordingly.

Sorry I only have onx or basemap. Will that work?

My thought was maybe hes just after a trophy rack. That pack would carry at least that but would not hide it. The clothes do not look like a hunter so would blend in easy on the way out if he ran into anyone. Even hiking in and out, I have only ever run into a few people and all were hunters within a mile of the parking area. I actually hunt with an iron sight because its pretty thick. Missed an opportunity at a monster with my scope years back when i stumbled upon this area. Bumped him and gone. Had a shot at his son too that was lost due to a scope. The big bucks are nomadic though so disappearing from this area is not uncommon either. When they do that I go to the other side of the mountain to find em. Ill throw in some horn porn as a teaser lol. Glad all i got is an imagination. Id rather shoot the big 3x with a split g3 but the 4x is pretty nice. Id like that 3x to grow one more year though so he would be wider/taller like his dad/uncle/grandpa or whatever he takes after. Unless its a poacher, im not worried about people seeing these bucks. I have trouble finding em and Id put money that i know the area better than anyone.

Definitely a poacher. That’s my cousin. I’d recognize those Bermuda shorts on him any day. He LOVES hunting in those things.
One of his fave things to do is wander in front of game cams he sees in the woods, often times, naked he says. Another of his tricks is to insert new batteries in the game cams he finds. He carries a pretty good assortment of brands/ sizes in his Mattel backpack.
Did he do the ‘walking down the stairway’ routine in front of any of your cams? That’s a favorite of his.
Send me those gps points of that cam and I’ll double check with him.
