Think of a pressured unit, mid-October.

For me (and I'm guessing most hunters) this is the hardest time. The elk have shut up for the most part, they've stopped moving during the daytime, the ground is dry and crunchy so tracks are hard to follow. Can't locate through bugles, can't locate through spot and stalk.

- What I do in this situation is look for fresh sign and potential bedding areas. Then I'll cow party to see if anything makes a sound or moves in silently.
- I'll sit saddles I know they use and have pretty fresh sign, and wait for them to move from feeding to bedding areas.
- When I get up high I'll absolutely glass as much as possible.

Any other tips for this slogging part of the season? Tactics that work, and specifically ideas for this part of the season before the snow gets heavier?
