We have shot them with a 25-06, 243, 6.5x55 and 270's. My son took his best at 493 yards with his 6.5x55. Your 6.5 will definitely get the job done. With that, the 25-06 is my personal flavor.

Should be a good caliber, I have always used a .270 for speed goats and never had a problem, also use it for deer and elk. Good luck!
