Well, after years of being away from the backpack hunting game, we got lucky and drew tags for mule deer rifle hunts for myself, the wife and the boy. He drew the first hunt which starts Saturday. I have spent months gearing up for this event, and we are headed out in 4 hours to head for NM. Thanks to everyone for the inputs on this site, advice, and how to's which helped me prepare.
Nothing left to do now except put some miles on the hunting boots, breath some mountain air, and spend a bunch of time glassing until we find what we are looking for hopefully. No matter what, this is going to be a great hunt. Its been years since I've been on a true backpack hunt. My boy has only experienced deer blind hunting and a little spot and stalk, but primarily feeder hunting,,,,uggg.
Deer or no deer, Im thankful that we got drawn so my boy and I can enjoy this experience together. I will try to log in during the hunt, or post another reply after we get back with the results.
