I just picked up a Revic FH1 Fluid head. I’ll be posting thoughts on this head compared to my Sirui VA5 and formerly owned Outdoorsmans fluid head.

I bought the Revic FH1 because I sold my 115 Swaro objective and no longer felt like I needed my Outdoorsman’s fluid head. With that being said, the Outdoorsman’s fluid head is a phenomenal head and has been the best one I’ve owned yet. I’ll be posting my initial pros and cons of each head as well.

Sirui VA5
Pros
-Compact
-Smooth horizontal and vertical pan
-Little to no plastic
-Most affordable

Cons
-Handle is too long for my liking
-I don’t love the slide in arca plate, I wish it was top mount

Outdoorsmans Fluid Head
Pros
-USA made
-large controls
-smooth horizontal and vertical pan with all optics
-well built
-arca mount had more contact area than Revic and Sirui
-Good handle length
-No plastic

Cons
-Cost (Retail is like $730)
-It is on the bulky side
-Heaviest of the 3 heads
- By far the most expensive and doesn’t include a plate

Revic
Pros
-Compact
-Seems well built with no plastic
-Good price, only about $30 more than Sirui
-Shorter handle than Sirui
-Top mount arca design compared to SUruk

Cons
-Vertical pan is good but at first use, horizontal pan seems jerky for fine adjustment
-Almost feels too stiff at times

I’ll post more once I get to use the Revic more

After using the Revic more on another hunt, I thought I'd give another update.

I'm really liking the fluid head at this point and is becoming a favorite for all around use. Here are some more observations.

  1. Revic Fluid head handles large optics well like BTX/ATX 85, 15x binos, etc
  2. Controls are large enough to use with bigger gloves on. I found them easier to use with gloves on than with the Sirui VA5.
  3. The horizontal pan has gotten better with some use in the field and feels less jerky. I leally like the top mount arca functionality vs slide in with the VA5.
  4. I love the handle length. It is on the shorter end so you save a little weight and is not too like some other tripod handles.

It's no big deal to shorten the handle on the VA-5. You do have a hacksaw, right?
