Scope suggestion for CZ 475 .22lr

My son is wanting a more precision bolt gun rather than his 10/22 for squirrel hunting. I plan on getting a CZ 475 but I can't decide on the scope needed to keep the gun nimble enough to carry through the woods. I'm contemplating a fixed 4x optic but we've always shot variable power scopes. I'm open to any suggestions from the group.

Normal 3-9x40 has always worked just fine for me.

Mine is wearing a 5-25 PST II, its more of a bench gunt but would be great for the squirrels well.

I happened to have it on a creed which was replaced by a Trig.

FWIW, I've performed a tall target test with numerous scopes and the vortex did the absolute best from 0-30 moa and back to 0.

I put an Arken 5x25x56 on mine ,but my buddy bought a Vortex diamondback Tactical 4x17x44 and its very solid. Doesn't have alot of weight on it either.

I'm sure those are good pieces of glass but likely too much scope for the shots he'd be taking. I'm thinking 75 yds. max on most shots in the timber.

I have a Leupold 4x12x40 on my CZ 455. Seems perfect for small hame hunting, cottontails mostly.

Thats fair. Yeah I use mine for NRL22 and Bench rest. Different use complete, so take mine comment with a grain of salt. Its a 4x16 not a 4x17

Vx2 3-9x40 on the 455. And a 2.5-8x36 on the ruger. Both are nice sizes on these lil rifles.

I also wouldnt be scared of a burris in that power range for what you are doing.

Just make sure it’s a rimfire scope or has an adjustable objective, otherwise parallax will be far from optimal.

Can you elaborate? I always assumed what made a scope “rimfire” is that it’s not meant to withstand heavy recoil.
Parallax is just physics. I don’t see how it would be affected by whether you’re shooting rim or center

There's nothing wrong with a fixed 4 or 6x scope. Like you said, it's only 75 yards. You do not need a monster scope.

Tract makes a nice 3-9x40, I’ve been impressed with the one I’ve been using for ~ 3 or 4 years now.

You don’t know what you don’t know.

Shoot groups at 25 yards with a centerfire scope with parallax set at 100 and then with a scope with no parallax at 25 yards, and give us an update.

I can't articulate the physics of it very well but yes parallax matters. Especially if you are setting up a rifle to hit small targets at 25 to 50 yards from field positions. A scope designed for big game will have parallax optimized for longer ranges than a rimfire scope.
