Seeking help on an arrow build for a Bowtech Realm

My PSE decided to crap out on me 5 weeks before the season starts. I have a 70# Bowtech Realm on the way, and was hoping for feedback on building an arrow for it. I will be shooting 70 lbs at a 29" DL, with a 29" arrow. The arrow is primarily for elk with a fixed BH, and I would like the finished weight to be around 480 to 500 gr. I get a discount on Easton shafts, so I'm mainly looking at those. Right now I'm torn between the FMJ Injexion and 5mm Axis. Top three builds are below, and are all around 480 with a 100 gr head, or 500 with a 125 gr head...

1) 4mm FMJ Injexion, 330 spine, 100+40 point weight = 483 grains and 10.8% FOC (with 125+40 it is 508 at 12.6 FOC).

2) 5mm Axis, 300 spine, 100+50 point weight = 484 at 11.7 FOC (with 125+50 it is 509 at 13.4 FOC)

3) 5mm Axis, 340 spine, 100+75 point weight = 474 at 14.4 FOC (with 125+75 it is 500 at 16 FOC)

You went the wrong way on your spine from option 2 to 3. I think you were more focused on the gpi shaft weight instead of the actual purpose of the spine. Heavy up front, stiffer spine. Out of your choices, I'd go 2 with a 75 insert and cut your arrows as short as possible to your rest.

I’d go with axis and 75gr brass inserts with 100gr BH. I prefer the H brass over the HIT so shoot 6mm. You could get 340 or 300 to tune but the 300 will put you closer to goal weight. I don’t know FOC but think about goal for total arrow mass more than anything.

I agree, knock the 300 back to 27" and 75 grain insert and I think you will like the result. Mine weigh 490.

I wouldnt mess with 4mm shafts for any money .
With a 29" shaft you going to have to stick to a 300 spine.
From Easton i would be looking at 5mm and 6mm shafts( ACC ,Hexx, or Axis) go 75 grains of brass in either a H insert or hit ...100 or 125 grain BH and your in the range you want to be.
If you wanted higher FOC you can cut a 340 down a couple inches and do the same build, about the same weight with bit higher FOC.
Honesty it wont matter anyway as weight trumps it.

Your spine would be weak on the 3rd option. You don't need a 29in arrow with a 29in draw. cut it back to like 27.5 or 28. I'd run a 27.75in 300 spine 5mm axis with 75gr brass insert and a 100gr head. That should be about perfect for spine and put you just over 500gr and decent FOC.

I'd go Option 2, 28.25" or 28.5" arrow with 175grs up front. 150 up front may work as well. Shoot some bare shafts at 30 yards and let the bow tell you what it likes. If needed, yolk tune that baby.

kupper is spot on, you want something along the lines of option 2.
i was bored and ran your setup on ontarget software app (great app btw) assuming 80% letoff
what should be ideal is...
easton axis 5mm 300 spine
cut to 28 in (or 27.75 would get you a touch stiffer)
100 grain point
75 grain brass insert



or run that same setup and break the brass insert down to 50 grains and its a little stiffer, faster but lighter with slightly less foc and ke



if you run a wrap each setup be a touch weaker. id probably start with 2 bare shafts, one at 28in with 75 grain insert and the other with the 50 grain insert and tune and tweak from there.

Yea, I just downloaded a trial of OT2 and ran the numbers. 340 spine would be wayyy too weak. I've been running FMJ Injexion spined at 280, and I was kind of assuming they were too stiff. In retrospect, my tear right was probably something else, as when I tore the bow down, there were a host of issues.

As for arrow length, how short can I safely go with a 29" DL? I've heard no shorter than equal to DL, but if I can run a 28" arrow that changes things a lot.

I know the 4mm Deep Six get a lot of flack, but I don't find them to be that much of a pita. Broadhead selection is limited, but good enough to find one that works.

Def can run and inch shorter probably up to an inh and a half but it depends on your broadhead and insert outserts system. For instance I wouldn't want a super short arrow with a short stubby cut on contact broadhead behind my finger but an arrow with an outserts an bh with a longer ferrule like an nap killzone probably wouldn't be an issue. I'd take your current setup and mark an inch,inch and half with like a silver sharpie with a broadhead on and go to full draw and you could probably see what you could get away with.
