Beautiful car. As a guy who turned a 68 firebird into an autocross car that I never autocross, I can't suggest you reconsider that plan enough. The loss in ride and comfort is not worth it. Keep it old school!
Thank you! What I didn't mention in that post is the even further down the road second part of that plan. My dad's high school car was a 1971 LeMans with a 455 and a Muncie 4 speed that he built in his high school shop class. Unfortunately he sold it (wishes he never did), so I'd love to find one to swap the 455 from my Trans Am into and kind of replicate his old car. So then I would have the best of both worlds. We'll see if either part of the plan ever happens though. Saving up for an Alaska moose hunt and a wedding have taken priority.
I'd have to disagree with you there. When I bought the Chevelle I posted earlier for my mom, it was all stock except for a GM Performance 350. It wallowed all over the place and stopped like a loaded freight train on a downhill grade. The Speedtech stuff he mentioned is amazing, and makes her car ride like a Caddy. The AFX spindles alone take the handling to a place stock stuff can only imagine. You can easily take Speedtech parts and make a car ride really, really well without tuning it to the edge of drivability like a dedicated auto-x car. I bet with some minor tweaks your Firebird could ride good enough to pleas a 70 year old lady like my mom.
I always liked the Gremlins. It would fit well with the AMX. They also offered it in the same color palette as my AMX in 1972. Would love to find a beater and just go crazy with it. Plus I will also have a 343 bored .060 over with a nasty cam in it available at some point when I get the 401 built.... Unfortunately it sounds really good, but is kind of gutless. It drives well though.

Same start, i was to poor to afford decent cars, beaters have a place in my heart. I've done some work- headstuds, injectors on a diesels, r&r a trans, diy brakes lines, rebuilt small engines. My boats are old yamaha 2 strokes. Then again, ive never touched a car distributor or advanced timing with one.
I guess I haven't watched the right video yet. "how to swap an engine" first clip is fitment, second clip is it running third is driving down the road. Gauges... besides mechanical gauges, where are they pulling the info from? It's one of those things i'll eventually do, but sure would be a lot nicer to have a helping hand that knows.
Nice! I have a 79. Mine was sold at our small town dealership that was 3 blocks from my house, went under in 98. Loaded out Ranger XLT with almost every option except a CB.

My very first car was a 1950 Chevy like my 49 only it was a 4 door and dark green. I had it for 2 years, bought a 56 Ford PU and put an Olds engine in it.
I always wanted a '56, as it was my favorite body style as a kid. I did have a '40 Ford PU for a short time when I was in my early 20's, but it was too nice of a truck and it really didn't fit my lifestyle, so I sold it. I've been kicking myself in the ass ever since.
Had a 69 Camaro but my toy now is also a Landcruiser 97 LX450 and I can use it to hunt and fish tooI’m going to get a little off track here, because this is about as far from a hot rod as one could possibly get but, I’m all about off-road. This is my ‘92 Land Cruiser, that is a work in progress and will soon be triple locked, and more than likely re-powered (I just haven’t decided if I wanna go with diesel or gas). Anyway, this old cruiser already does very well off-road, but hopefully it’ll soon be able to get me stuck in places that I’ll only be able to be airlifted out of.Right now the best thing about it is the fact that I can use it as an everyday driver and, in Alaska, if it’s 30 years old, you can register them one time for $25 (that includes plates and title), and you never have to register them again. Win, win…. that is until you get stuck and have to get air lifted out.

pretty much all my off road is rocky so haven’t really had the need for them but just missed out on a same model triple locked 97. Really wanted that one but I’m sure there were a few guys in line before me, it was fully loaded with accessories too for a pretty good price.
