synthetic deer scent

Anyone use these. it became illegal to use the real stuff about a decade ago in Virginia. i think i tried the fake stuff once without success and haven't bothered with it since. I'm sure Waddell and his ilk will sell it to you with a guarantee slapped on the box but i don't think I've seen anyone verify if it works. Any success stories?

I tried some fake interdigital and other scent for mock scrape and licking branch. Killed an active scrape with the stuff. Seems like it is better to just use a stick to scrape up some leaves and pee in it.
