Can kids under 12 yrs old hunt big game in Colorado? I see the apprentice program only allows kids under 12 to hunt small game with an adult. I suppose if an 11 yr old got their hunter safety card they could draw a tag for big game?

No, they must be 12 in order to hunt Big Game in Colorado. It is spelled out pretty clearly under Age Requirements on page 17 of this years regulations.


At age 11, youth may buy or apply for a license if
they will turn 12 before the end of season on the
license. Youth cannot hunt with the license until
they turn 12.

Thank you for the response I left my book on my vacation. My kid turns 12 on October 8th wanted to apply for an archery tag. Guess he will have to wait one more year.

He can apply for a preference point at least which will help next year depending on what you want to put him in for.


. YOUTH AGES 12–17 can apply for a point. Youth age 11 can also apply for a
point provided they turn 12 in 2020.
