Tikka 223 73 vs 75 vs 80 eldm

Yeah, I hear that. I push the 223 to its limit, but not so hard that loads are too hot. I thought about going to 223AI or 22ARC, but that would take away the simplicity that a standard 223 offers. My barrel is on its way to Kampfeld to get some freebore added.

If one takes a factory tikka mag apart and remodels it, one can load and shoot whatever bullet length they want. I did mine. Works great.
I keep reading people loading "long" coal's. My new MT223 Tikka will absolutely not allow any length you want. The throat is too short. Are you all modifying your throats or something?

No, my tikka has an extremely long throat to accept long coal lengths. Or I can get longer coal than the stock mag takes. Different bullets different ogives..

Longer than the stock mag accepts and extremely long throat are 2 different things. You cant even really load 75 ELDs at a reasonable seating depth and get them to fit in a factory mag much less get anywhere near seating them ideally. 77 TMKs are typically seated pretty deep in the case still when they are at the lands in a SAAMI (and seemingly most tikka) chambers.

@Soless I dont recall what my factory tube was with 75 ELD or 77 TMK jammed, i want to say approaching 2.4" COAL with 77 TMK? Still quite a bit longer than factory mag allows but not seated ideally. "Longer" COALs is probably more appropriate than "Long".

Well I had to adjust the mag length to get close to the lands in my rifle is what I’m saying.

Definitely. I'm just saying the factory throat becomes a constraint with bullets like 77tmk before the bullet gets to optimal seating location.
Barnes ttsx 62gr, Hornady ELDM 69gr, and Sierra 77gr Match King were all seated way deeper than I would have preferred. Maybe these new barrels are little tighter than the pre MT versions because I had to ream my throat to get .020 off the lands with the Match Kings, which puts my COAL at roughly 2.446".
I was puzzled how people are getting to load a longer COAL straight from the factory.

Until I can find a good mag that works in the KRG Echo, this will be single feed for the foreseeable future. If anyone know of a decent flush fit mag, let me know.

I dont know what "pre-MT version" means.

I assume most use standard SAAMI throat. Again, seating longer than factory 2.27ish mag length and seating them ideally with boattail ahead of neck/shoulder junction are different things. Not hard to get a 75 eld, 77 SMK, TMK, etc longer than 2.27 without being jammed but in most cases its still going to be seated pretty fairly deep at jam with a SAAMI/factory throat. A 77 TMK at 2.350" is a nice improvement over 2.27" but a longer throat is definitely better for the application.

Ascension mags are close to the factory mag form factor if i'm not mistaken.

MT = muzzle threaded. The Ascension mags look promising, thanks.
