I've a Tikka T3X chambered in 30-06 that I'm seriously considering to use for a 6.5 CM build for some long range target stuff. I obviously have the LA bolt stop and L mags....do I HAVE to get a SA bolt stop and M+ or will it work just fine to spin on a new barrel? I don't care about the .5"(?) of further bolt travel. Tia

I think if it feeds well run the longer mag and bolt stop. It would make doing some handloads at above saami easier. We did the same thing with a 6.5 PRC and got some good results.

You got me curious so I went and tried it. Worked fine in mine. Long action Tikka mag and fed right in the chamber of my .35 Whelen Tikka.

My 25 prc (SA) was built off of a 300 mag tikka (LA). The magnum size works great.

I dont really acknowledge the extra bolt throw. Feeds like butta

Fiddling with shorter cartridges in longer tikka mags I have been able to get them to shift forward and hang up bullet-down so they would not feed. But have never had this happen in reality. Worst case if you find its an issue, extra mags are under $50 and its always nice to have some spares. I would not worry about it until it becomes an actual problem.

I have a LA and use it with a 6CM and have had no issues.
