Weatherby Vanguard - Unique Wood Question

Based on serial number on the action, this vanguard stock was made between ‘70-‘84. I didn’t even know they made them back then. I bought it on my first rifle at a flea market in 2006, and eventually upgraded to a Bell and Carlson stock. Thought of this stock the other day and got it out of storage.

Does anybody know what kind of wood this could be? The grain looks like walnut (closed ring porous) but it’s very very blonde for walnut, even sapwood. Was wondering if, since these were made in Japan, this is some sort of Japanese hardwood.

Any thoughts are appreciated. It came off a .270 Win. by the way. IMG_7614.jpegIMG_7613.jpeg

It looks not at all unlike the stock on my Vanguard purchased in early 2015 and listed as walnut.
