What did you do in the reloading room today?

Worked on 100 cases of 30-378 setting Neck tension to 2/1000 and loaded of 5 sets of final seating depth for 2 different 28 Noslers that will be shot Friday.

Went with 70.2gr

Shot 600 to check velocity. When the app says hold left, I should probably hold left.

Went to 1,000, dropped it one click after the 1st one. Still needed to hold more left but I think this load will shoot.
2,990 with N570 and 195's; this combo has been magic in my 7STW and now this 7PRC.

I think they might be the older remington accutips which were just a green tipped sst

I have 6mm 95grs from midway that are the same, and as far as I can tell are just a green tipped sst
That is exactly right. Midway USA sold them as Blems / 2nds. Manufactured by Hornady with the exact same measurements as the SST. Just green tipped instead of red.

Busy week this week. After work today I loaded some of the big boys, my 416 Remington, with super fun reduced H4895 loads. My dad is retired/bored and powder coated and gas checked some 350gr hard cast bullets he had around and gave me a few. 57gr gives me a 1.25" group at 100y travelling about 1950fps. Incredibly fun and comfortable to shoot.

Might be a neat story to try for a deer with that combo.

Drilled and tapped a piece of 6.5x55 brass so I can use it with my OAL gauge. Starting load development for a sweet T3X in 6.5x55

Speaking of which, upon using said brass and gauge, along with a 147 ELDM, I am not getting jam until literally just the boat tail is left in the brass. It seems like the lands are miles away.

Is this at all consistent with what others have seen with tikka 6.5x55 chambers? I only ask because I’m curious if my brass isn’t seating all the way without the bolt forcing it in. The bolt needs the slightest bit of forward pressure to close (even on factory ammo, seems a little tight compared to my 223 tikka)

I seated my dummy at 3.14” which is about where I want it, it chambers and extracts just fine, no marks from the lands.

If you’re concerned the case might not be seating properly, just take a fired case and deprime or drill the primer out. Then I just put some loctite in the case neck, start a bullet in and gently chamber it. Close the bolt and wait a few minutes before extracting. You’ll know for sure then.

I tried it but I think I suck at this method. It ended up sub 3”. Hahaha.

There wasn’t enough neck tension so even just getting it chambered as gentle as possible it slid back. I need to try again after bumping the neck ever so slightly with my sizing die to just give it the slightest bit of neck tension.

308 w/ 168gr eldm for deer season, 45/70 subs and supers. Also worked on some homebrew subsonic 450 Bushmaster I came up with that cycle an AR (resized 405gr cast lead from .458 to .452). That's been an interesting journey, but they stomp up close on deer or hogs.

This Frankford Arsenal OAL Gauge is pretty handy and consistent within a few thou once you get the feel for it, also measures from the bolt face so it's a true OAL.

Still yet to see valid proof that it does for precision, but it can affect pressure. And I need a baseline measurement to track throat erosion.
Valid proof is found by the individual reloading for themselves. No one could possibly prove it to another person like you cuz you’ll just say anecdotal evidence is not proof.
I adjust seating depth for every rifle but some rifle barrels respond more than others.
Want proof for yourself? Buy an old K98 and load 175 grain bullets and see how well it shoots and then start seating the bullet farther out and watch the groups tighten up.
