What did you do in the reloading room today?

Annealed 225 rounds of brass for the first time.

If you don't mind me asking, what annealing machine / process did you use? Been thinking about adding annealing to my process but hesitant to go down that rabbit hole... Any lessons learned or pointers for a guy who hasn't annealed yet?

Painting is done, working on putting the room back together and building the bench with my brother

I am probably not the guy to ask since this was my first attempt. I use a AGS, but there are lots of other options out there. The AMP unit is probably the best, but very expensive.
I set the time to drop the case when it got a orangish glow. Not very scientific or precise.

Looks like a pretty straight forward piece of equipment, I wasn't aware of this unit but may have to give it a look! Thanks!

Welcome to the rabbit hole where you can be as OCD about the smallest details and someone will still know a better way to do it if you like to tinker you will probably enjoy reloading.

keep it simple to begin with cuz some of us are still simple reloaders after decades of reloading… now if you venture into smacking steel at extreme range then you step into a serious reloading world of OCD.

I’m basically just copying what’s already been built for my gun. So extremely simple and the loads already been developed. Just my buddy who’s done all the leg work set me up with a press and scale and all the info I needed to reload mine and my sons 6.5cm (we shoot the same load) so just made sense to start doing it myself.

We’ve already been banging steel passed 1000 yards so not sure how much farther I need to go before I get to the ocd part.

As mentioned earlier by another poster the different shooting disciplines all have quarks with varying degrees of intricacy. The bench rest guys are notorious for being OCD but some of them hold some crazy world records.

The short of it is find what works for you and run with it. The only wrong way to do it is doing it unsafely.

I’ve got a really good mentor/teacher luckily and I don’t know how deep down the rabbit hole I’ll go for bench shooting. I ultimately just wanted a good hunting rifle that I know forwards and backwards. So it makes sense both financially and knowledge wise to build my own ammo.

Well I’m glad you to do some prep in peace

I had my 2yo standing on my foam target launching wrenches and screw drivers, oh and misc nuts and bolts across the work bench.

But I got 100 pieces of 6.5CM resized and chamfered.

And he had the time of his life.

You'll need a couple of test pieces to set the speed right. If you want to be super exact get some heat paint

I annealed 250 pieces of brass at 5 seconds a piece and the system mostly auto feeds

This is what I use and am a fan of.

Resized a 100 357 mag cases last night.
Leupold VX-3 1.5x5 scope came back from warranty service so sighted it in. I shot new hunting loads using W748 mag primer & Sierra 180 RN & they shot great. Never tried 748 in the 06 before. Little slower load won’t hurt my short woods shots on deer.

Used the Dillon Super Swage for the first time today. I should have bought this a decade ago. Way better than the RCBS in press Swage or trying to cut the crimp out with a hand tool.

Loaded some 225gr SGK and some 200gr Hornady IL for my .358 Win. Need to figure out which load will go spring bear hunting.

Also loaded a few 75gr ELD-M now that I have a mag that will allow a longer coal.

Last night & tonight I loaded 90 cases for the 8mm/338 win using Herters 236 grain RN, surplus 4831 & CCI LR Mag Primer.
