Winchester 1897 12 ga. Serial # indicates that it was manufactured in 1923, iirc.
Inherited from my Great Grandfather.

I have a first year production Winchester model 94 30-30 made in 1897. No pictures as it’s in storage because I’m in between houses at the moment.

Not trying to be a smart ass/jerk, but how can it be a first year production if it wasn’t manufactured in 1894?

I’ve got a 1903 Springfield dated 1906, otherwise my ‘32 model 12 16ga and a ‘37 model 71 win are my oldest.

Colt New Service from 1906 in 38/40, handed down from my great grandfather.

I just picked up a Winchester 1892 in the same cartridge from 1911. Been searching for over 10 years to find the cartridge mate to my revolver

*EDIT* I checked the serial number on a trusted website and it comes up as 1908 made for the Winchester. So much for believing the seller..... So, two firearms made with two years of each other in the same chambering.

I’ve always liked old guns and I enjoy shooting them whenever I get a chance.

My oldest is an all original Mauser Type B manufactured in 1904. It’s chambered in 8x57 and has the older .318 bore. The rifle is in Jon Speed’s book on Mausers.

I also have a Winchester 1885 made in 1911 that was originally a rimfire musket according to the serial number. By the time I got ahold of it, it was nothing more than a stripped down action. I had the rifle rebuilt by a gunsmith in Michigan named Steve Durren. Now it’s a sporting rifle chambered in 30 Army or 30-40 Krag.

I have another Type B manufactured in 1914 that’s chambered in 7x57. I bought that rifle from a pretty well known guide in Alaska named Phil Shoemaker.

And finally, I have an artillery Luger that was manufactured in 1917. Every number matches, even the magazine. What I’m missing is the stock.

My oldest is a French Chatellerault produced Mosin-Nagant M1891 made in 1894. Good shooting rifle. I took a doe with it during the 2024 season.

This was my Great Grandfathers 1894 30/30 The barrel says its nickel and especially designed for smokeless power. That must have been a big deal in 1895. Back before hunting seasons he and his brother made a living hunting deer and elk around Vernonia for folks in Portland. It still shoots good but has been shot so many times you can easily pull through the half cock safety.

That’s sweet! You probably already know this but, you can run the serial numbers through the Winchester website and find out the year it was manufactured.
