What's your standby Whitetail hunting knife?

I'm a bit of a knife nerd, so I've had my fair share of different knives over the years. However lately my go to for everything but skinning has been the boker bark beetle. I like the long slender profile and a nice sharp tip. Great for cleaning out the anus, as I don't split the pelvis, and the tip allows me to nip parts of the organs in the chest cavity without needing to turn the blade to use the edge.

Never owned a hunting knife. Always just used them afterwards.

I’ve got too many knives. But one of these two always seem to be my pick when I head out.

And now for something completely different. My sister and her husband gave me a birthday gift of a Strømeng Samekniv in the 9” version a couple years ago. ( Being Norwegian/Swedish/Finnish, I was introduced to the Scandi grind a few decades ago.) It’s patterned after the knives carried by Sámi reindeer herders in Arctic parts of Norway, Sweden and Finland.

I put it to use today for the first time on a roadkill spike whitetail, and I was impressed with its handling. There’s a reason the reindeer herders favor these for butchering their animals, gathering firewood and prepping shelters, all while wearing mittens at subzero temperatures. It wasn’t that cold today, but I am looking forward to giving that a go later this year.
