Women's Rifle or Youth Model?

Just throwing this out there…what you “like” might not be what’s most effective or beneficial. There’s a reason the rokstok is gaining so much traction, it’s not because everyone likes it. It’s because it is designed to manage recoil, return your sight picture to the point of aim quicker to be back on target with an animal, and be effective at setting up in a variety of positions. I don’t necessarily “like” all the things I use in the field, but those things work better than what I do like and I value function over what’s pleasing. If a Rokstok isn’t an option, the next best thing off the shelf is a tikka with a vertical hand guard. And with the calibers, get something she isn’t afraid to shoot because of the recoil and will practice more often with. I shoot far more now than I ever did because I enjoy it and my shoulder doesn’t hurt after 10 rounds now that I switched from a 7.5# 30-06 shooting 165s to a lighter recoil smaller caliber.

Hello everyone! My husband has been getting me into hunting the last few years. I've been using his old Winchester 70 30-06 for elk and deer hunting in Colorado. I have to use a rest or I feel like I'm going to tip over nose first. It's time I get my own rifle! We've been debating a youth rifle with a cheek raise or a women's specific model (Savage Lady Hunter 7mm-08 or Weatherby Camilla). I'd appreciate some input from the more experienced folks on this forum! If it helps, I'm 5'5"/130.
You don’t need a dedicated “women” built rifle but there are some stock options out there that may make a current rifle fit better. the peak 44 bastion has a 12” lop and the swell fits smaller hands well. My daughter lovers hers and she touch taller than you.

With that said 7-08 probably a better caliber choice for you. Especially in a shorter barrel configuration.

Another option is a chassis stock or sig cross. The sig cross pretty versatile rifle
