After using the zip-off bottoms it's hard to go back. Had a pair of SKRE merino wool heavy weight bottoms and wanted to the the convenance of quickly taking them off or putting them on.

Materials needed--
2 size#5 coil zippers 46" $4 each
4 zipper stops .10 each
2 wide strips of Velcro $5
Total $13.40

Step three--
lay the zippers out ensure fit
Make sure the zipper releases at the waist band and not the ankle. It's much easier to start the zipper at the waist and the zipper is much more comfortable at the ankle.

Step four--
Pin zipper inverted as shown. Use plenty of pins to hold so material doesn't stretch as sewn. When you flip them they will correctly position zipper.

Step five--
Straight stitch the zipper. I use a standard foot and run the foot along the zipper edge

Added the Velcro to the waist band. Connected the opposite Velcro to a scrap piece of material for the other side.

Here's the finished project

Not as pretty as a manufactured pair but just as functional and all for less than $20 and a couple hours work (much less if your skilled no doubt)
