First thing I would do is get a stock with a raised comb or adjustable cheek piece. I see lots of people with stock rifles running big scopes. This sets you up for long range misses, especially when you start shooting in less than ideal field positions.

what would you recommend for a good all around gun without getting super crazy in a build with price etc? I like the idea of having a gun that is one of a kind but I don't reload and I don't want to spend 5000. I am thinking around 2000 before scope would be my budget. I would like lightweight accurate and somewhat custom, thoughts?

If you don't reload I wouldn't go the custom route.

Remington receiver only $300
PTG bolt $220
Oversized recoil lug $40
Blueprint action $200
Ha Precision stock $350
Hawkins Bdl bottom metal with Wyatt's box $175
Kampfeld 3 port brake $70
Benchmark #4 $330
Timney trigger $130
Engrave/chamber/thread/time brake plus bed stock: $525

That's about as cheap/custom as you can get. Should be fairly light weight as well.

What do you think that set up would weigh? Looks like a nice build, I would probably splurge and get a custom action but the rest looks good.

I'd have to run some numbers but assuming a 2.5 lb stock I'd think it would weight 7.75 lbs +/- 8 oz.

This is what I'm running.
IMAG2592~2.jpg

Remington 700 SPS 300WM
Bell & Carlson full block stock
Vortex Viper PST 4-16x50
Vortex Venom red dot
Warne rail and rings

High Noon Armory blueprinted and bedded the action.

After rebates, I have a little over $2000 in it. Shoots sub moa.
